Visit to Tver Medical Academy

Sri Lankan students studying in Tver Medical Academy organized their annual Sri Lankan Cultural Show on 25th of April 2009. Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga and Madam Weeratunga participated as Chief Guest of this Meeting. Also Rector of the Tver Medical Academy Prof. Mikhail Kalinkin was participated. For this Cultural Show they gave the name – “Nethra” – means eyes.
Sri Lankan cultural values, religious ceremonies and cloths and other varieties they arranged to show to the participants. Also these students organized special exhibitions showing Sri Lankans traditional goods and Sri Lankan sceneries.
More than 128 Sri Lankan students are studying in this Academy. Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga met Sri Lankan student’s representatives to discuss their day to day problems and also he discussed with the rector about students requests.
Additionally to this reception, Embassy of Sri Lanka organized a mobile Consular Activities there.

Workshop for travel agents with Inaer travel company

In April 2009, before summer season starts Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation continued to organize workshops for travel agents. On 23th of April 2009 one workshop was organized in cooperation with tour operator Intaer the most dynamic Travel Company selling Sri Lanka on the Russian Market and covered about 35 agents. The program of the meeting was completely devoted to Sri Lanka as the best destination within Asia.
H.E. Udayanga Weeratunga except the information about the country told a brief story about early days of Tea production on Sri Lanka made a stress on a National Sri Lankan cuisine and pay attention on various exotic fruits might be tasted during the trip around the island. All participants got presents from the Embassy such as video and brochures about Sri Lanka as well as a new Embassy’s project – audio guide about Sri Lanka in the Russian Language.
The Best Agents was awarded with the diploma and special presents from H.E. the Ambassador. After the workshop all guest had a cup of tea and a small discussion in informal atmosphere with Mr. Udayanga Weeratunga.

Workshop for travel agents with Maldiviana travel company

On 16th of April 2009 one of such an event took place at the Embassy of Sri Lanka together with Maldiviana Travel Company. More than 30 Agents came to listen H.E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka. During the tea break all participants were able to taste the best Sri Lankan food except the finest pure Ceylon tea. The second part of the workshop was devoted to hotels and flights description from Tourism Promotion Assistant Ms. Anna Korolkova.
Mr. Udayanga Weeratunga shared with Agents information about the country (some aspects of traveling, customs and visa formalities, and souvenirs as well as the main historical heritage and ancient towns, culture and nature) and answered the questions about future plans of developing the new eco project in Kalipitiya within the next few years. During the meeting participants had an opportunity to see the new images of Sri Lanka on the big screen. The Best Agents was awarded with the diploma and special presents from H.E. the Ambassador. After the workshop all guest had a cup of tea and a small discussion in informal atmosphere with Mr. Udayanga Weeratunga.
All participants got presents from the Embassy such as video and brochures about Sri Lanka as well as a new Embassy’s project – audio guide about Sri Lanka in Russian Language.
We would like to say words of thanks to all travel agents and tour operators especially. Hope that the experience which they got during the meeting and the new audio guide about Sri Lanka in Russian Language will help them in their work for promoting Sri Lanka on the Russian Market.

New Year Celebration

Sri Lanka New Year Celebration at the Embassy

On 14th of April 2009 Sri Lankans living in Moscow participated special ceremony to contribute funds to the Api Wenuwen Api Fund in Sri Lanka. Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga contributed 7500 US $ and on the same day another two Sri Lankans contributed another 15000 US$. And the other reason is this reception was organized on the eve of Sri Lankan New Year.
Speaking on this reception Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga appreciated all efforts of Sri Lankan for the contribution for the Api Wenuwen Api Fund.

Farewell Reception

Farewell Reception for Group Captain Sudharshana Pathirana

Defense Attaché Group Captain Sudharshana Pathirana together with Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga organized a farewell party for the Defense Members of the other SAARC region countries. India, Pakistan and Bangladesh Defense Attaches and its staff also participated this special reception.

Reception on the occasion of “MITT 2009″

The second day of the Fair was dedicated to a press conference and Sri Lankan traditional dinner. The Minister of Culture and Tourism and the Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture of the Republic of Maldives, together with the Deputy Director of the Tourist Board of the Republic of Maldives, were the special guests at this dinner reception. This was attended by more than 100 guests including travel companies, media organizations and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
At this reception, His Excellency’s presentation was supported by the Audio Guide in the Russian language and this Audio Guide CDs were given to the all media personnel, and also some Russian tour operators were awarded with the Certificates of registration in the Embassy of Sri Lanka as tour operators to promote Sri Lanka.

MITT 2009

Tourism & Travel Fair “MITT 2009″

Moscow International Tourism and Travel (MITT) Fair is an annual event for the Russian travel market, which was held 18th-21st March 2009 in Moscow. This year 17 Sri Lankan companies with the Sri Lankan Convention Bureau participated in this event. The Sri Lankan pavilion was constructed in traditional Sri Lankan style highlighting the famous Kandy Perahera pageant on the outer walls and the middle part was decorated with colorful images of the most famous Sri Lankan sceneries.
Decorated cornered columns were connected with three cornered flags with the new logo “Small Miracle” as in a Buddhist temple during the fest. The Sri Lankan pavilion was ceremonially declared open by His Excellency Udayanga Weeratunga, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in RF, who wished the participants all the good luck in the fair.

A number of workshops devoted to Sri Lanka took place in March 2009 with participation of Mr. Udayanga Weeratunga, H.E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation. On 16th of March 2009 one more workshop was organized in cooperation with tour operator ASTRAVEL listed in the unified tour operators register dealing with Sri Lanka and covered about 40 agents.
The program of the meeting was completely devoted to Sri Lanka as the best destination within Asia. During 1.5 hours H.E. the Ambassador was telling about the country, some aspects of traveling, customs and visa formalities, and souvenirs as well as the main historical heritage and ancient towns, culture and nature together with the main itinerary for tourists. During the meeting participants had an opportunity to see the new images of Sri Lanka on the big screen.
All participants got presents from the Embassy such as video and brochures about Sri Lanka.
