The Annual cricket tournament, ”Embassy Cup 2011″ took place on the 2nd July 2011 at the ground of the Peoples Friendship University of Russian Federation. It is noteworthy that the event, which was organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, took place for the 4th successive year with the participation of Sri Lankan students from Russian State Universities and the Sri Lankan business community in Moscow. The Annual “Embassy Cup” Cricket tournament has been organized by the Sri Lanka Embassy since 2008 with the vision of bringing the Sri Lankan community together and promoting unity among the Sri Lankan student community. The event saw the participation of 8 teams representing the Peoples Friendship University of Russia, Kursk State Medical University, Tver State Medical Academy and Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University (MADI).
The Team “Kursk Royal Panthers” representing Kursk State Medical University won the “Embassy Cup 2011″ and received the trophy from H.E. Udayanga Weeratunga. The team “Parakumba” representing MADI became the runners-up of the tournament. All team members were awarded a certificates of participation.
The Sri Lankan Business Community in Moscow contributed in many ways in arranging the event. The Embassy takes the opportunity to thank the following members of the Sri Lankan business community in Moscow for their assistance in making the event a success:

The “Embassy Cup 2011″ was organized by the Embassy under the overall supervision of H.E. Udayanga Weeratunga, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation. The Chief Organizers of the event were Mr. Lal Kumara Gamage, Head of Chancery and Mr. Prashantha Payoe, Defense Advisor of the Embassy.
