H.E. the President arrived at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia at 15.00 hrs as the Chief Guest of the “Sri Lankan Cultural Show” which was organized by the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation. The Cultural Show took place at the Main Hall of the Peoples’ Friendship University. H.E. the President and the First Lady were received by Rector Filippov and conducted to the Photo Exhibition “Rajatha Dekma” organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka and Mr. Sudath Silva. 150 photos were exhibited. A meeting took place between H.E. the President and Rector Filippov after the opening of the Photo Exhibition. At the meeting it was discussed to increase the opportunities for Sri Lankan students for full-term courses in the areas of medicine, engineering and information technologies using 50% scheme system. It was also discussed to introduce programmes for postgraduate overseas training in English medium for the medical specialists who have completed post graduate degree in Sri Lanka and to introduce inter-institutional cooperation “through the exchange programme of teaching staff” with the purpose of obtaining new technologies and innovative methods of teaching and preparing PhD Candidates and Doctorate dissertations. H.E. the President was escorted to the Main Hall by Rector Flippov. The Cultural Show commenced with the welcome address by Rector Filippov and H.E. the President was presented with a memento by the Rector. H.E. the President presented an award to the Peoples’ Friendship University. Awards were presented to the following members of the Academic staff of the Peoples’ Friendship University in recognition of their contribution to education: Ms. Liudmila P. Karpenko, Mr. Viktor E. Radzinsky, Mr. Sergey N. Krivoshapko, Mr. Igor L. Tolmachev, Ms. Zoya I. Esina, Mr. Yuri N. Moseykin. After the presentation of awards H.E. the President addressed the audience. The speech of H.E. the President was simultaneously translated to Russian. The Cultural Show which followed showcased a variety of traditional Sri Lankan dances and performances by a group of Sri Lanka Air Force and the Sri Lankan students from a number of Russian universities. A traditional Russian dance was performed by the Russian students. Approximately 900 participated at this event including around 200 Sri Lankan students studying at Kursk, Tver and Gomel Universities in the Russian Federation. Foreign Minister, Hon. 7 февраля состоялось культурное «Шоу Шри-Ланка» организованный посольством Шри-Ланки в Российской Федерации и РУДН в концертном зале РУДН. На входе были расположены чайные палатки, которые угощали только что вошедших с улицы замерзших зрителей горячим ароматным цейлонским чаем. В фойе при входе в зал была открыта экспозиция фотографий Президента под названием «Есть лидер! Есть страна!» Выставка была привезена специально из Шри-Ланки и открыта лично Махинда Раджапакса. Перед началом праздничного концерта для более чем 800 гостей выступил с приветственной речью ректор РУДН проф. Филиппов. Он отметил, что Махинда Раджапакса является не только национальным героем, но своего рода легендарным лидером и примером для подражания. Г-н Филиппов поздравил Президента с победой на недавних выборах и в знак признания его заслуг, г-н Филиппов преподнес от имени РУДН золотую корону лидеру — Президенту, единственному на сегодняшний день сумевшему победить терроризм. В ответной речи Президент Шри-Ланки поблагодарил за теплый прием ректора РУДН и всех российских граждан, а так же отметил, что сейчас Шри-Ланка переживает фазу очень активного экономического развития и в будущем станет центром торговли, морского и воздушного сообщения для всего мира. Президент Шри-Ланки еще раз поблагодарил Российскую сторону за поддержку, оказанную его стране в борьбе с терроризмом и отметил, что двусторонние отношения и взаимное сотрудничество двух стран, и без того всегда остававшиеся теплыми и дружественными, продолжают крепнуть. 6 преподавателей РУДН получили Памятные дипломы и Подарки от Президента Шри-Ланки. Завершился вечер праздничным концертом, организованным национальной танцевальной группой ВВС Шри-Ланки и студентами РУДН, а также шри-ланкийскими студентами из Твери и Курска, которые приехали в Москву для встречи с со своим Президентом.
Встреча состоялась в офисе ректора. Профессор Владимир Филиппов приветствовал делегацию университета дружбы народов России. Профессор Flippov объяснил важность наличия высшего образования среди многонациональных окрестностях, таких как университет дружбы народов России. Его превосходительство, Президент поблагодарил ректора Филиппов за теплый прием и высоко оценил присуждение почетного доктора университета. Его превосходительство, Президент кратко объяснил вклад университета в подготовке специалистов за последние пятьдесят лет и роль российских выпускников в ключевых позиций в государственном и частном секторах Шри-Ланки. Профессор Владимир Филиппов предложено принять меры по увеличению числа приеме Шри-Ланки студентов в университет. Он отметил, что 10-20 лет назад примерно 200 студентов из Шри-Ланки учился в РУДН, и теперь общая сумма около 40. Была достигнута договоренность разработать допуск Шри-Ланки студентов для полного исследования курсовой в области медицины, инженерного и информационные технологии, использующие 50% системы схеме — количество учащихся, охваченных для обучения и проживания в партии Ланки, и эквивалентное количество бюджетных стипендий, предлагаемых Российской Федерации. Кроме того превосходительство Президент поручил ввести программы для последипломного обучения за рубежом на английском языке среде при РУДН через 1 год программы стажировок для медицинских специалистов, которые закончили аспирантуру степени в Шри-Ланке, используя ту же систему схему. Университет согласился рассмотреть этот запрос положительно. Университет согласился ввести межведомственного сотрудничества через программы обмена профессорско-преподавательского состава с целью получения новых технологий и инновационных методов преподавания и подготовки докторантов и докторских диссертаций.
