Sri Lankan New Year Celebrated

Dinner reception in commemoration of the Sinhala and Hindu New year

His Excellency udayanga Weeratunga hosted the Staff of the Embassy and established Sri Lankan business personnel living in Moscow for a dinner reception in commemoration of the Sinhala and Hindu New year.
the even was held on the 14 April 2008. Speaking at the occasion his Excellency the ambassador wished all the members of Staff and their families a Happy New Year, also appreciated the Sri Lankan Business community for the assistance provided in social events concerning Sri Lanka. The particiapnts enjoyed a Sri Lankan dinner and Ceylon tea.

Armenia’s new President H.E Serzh Sargsyan was sworn-in 9th of April, 2008. the swearing-in ceremony took place at a special parliamentary session in a theater of the capital Yerevan. H.E the Ambassador of Sri Lanka Mr. Udayanga Weeratunga participate on behalf of Sri Lanka. Both side agreed to continue discussions and bi lateral trade & cultural agreements. Also agreed to exchange delegations between two countries for the development of mutual understanding.

Also, a photo exhibition and sosoyalas otkritiya prezentachiya DVD Albom Sri Lanka through the eyes of the Russian ambassador.

H.E. the Ambassador and the staff warmly welcome the newly appointed Deputy Chief of Mission, Maj. General Nandana Udawatta and the Consular Officer Ms. Nayomi Serasinghe whilst bidding farewell to Ms. Ruwini Gunasena, who completed her assignment as the Consular Officer in the Sri Lanka Embassy in Russia.
Welcoming Maj. General Nandana Udawatta, H.E Weeratunga expressed his pleasure to have the Major General, who led the largest battalion of Sri Lanka Army to successfully ending the 30 year old civil war. Further H. E. the Ambassador appreciated Ms. Gunasena for her committed and diligent work and for the efficient and effective function carried out for the betterment of the mission’s procedures and operations; at the same time expressed his expectations of Ms. Serasinghe to fulfill the job functions assigned efficiently and effectively in the time to come.
The speech in return, Ms. Gunasena expressed her gratitude for support, assistance and warm welcome in Russia. Great appreciation was expressed to the Ambassador of Sri Lanka Udayanga Weeratunga and Madam Uma Weeratunga not only for support in her work but also for taking care of the family during their stay in Russia.

International Women’s Day was celebrated at the Embassy with the Staff. Ladies of the Embassy including Mrs. Uma Weeratunga and Ms. Sithara Weeratunga received gifts from H.E. the Ambassador. The staff enjoyed a special dinner arranged by Mrs. Weeraunga.

Reception on the occasion of “Prodexpo 2008″

Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga organized a special reception for the Sri Lankan participants of the PRODEXPO 2008 exhibition which was held in Feb 2009 in Moscow. 12 Sri Lankan companies especially tea companies participated this exhibition. Also Foreign Ministry officials, Sri Lankans living in Russian Federation participated this reception.
On this occasion Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga addressing he mentioned that to popular Ceylon Tea brand in Moscow Embassy is always ready assist any necessary help for the importing companies.
Madam Weeratunga organized special dinner with delicious Sri Lankan foods.

60th Sri Lankan Independence celebrated on grand manner with the participation of Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga on 4th of February 2008 at the Sri Lanka embassy in Russian Federation. Officials from the Ministry of Foriegn Affairs, Officials Government of Russia, Ambassadors and Diplomatic officers of other foriegn missions of Russia, Sri Lankan community, students and religious patrons participated this ceremony.

HE Udayanga Weeratunga, the newly appointed Ambassador Sri Lanka to the President of Ukraine, presented his credentials to the President of Ukraine HE Viktor Yushchenko, Big Zaleba, President Palace in Kiev, on December 1, 2006, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Borys Tarasyuk was also present at the ceremony. After the ceremony, the Russian President had a brief conversation with everyone after a glass of champagne.
Addressing the ambassadors, the head of the Ukrainian State stressed that Ukraine seeks to “declare their strategic objectives and deepen the friendly and mutually beneficial relations with partners both in the Old and New World” .On the present stage of Ukrainian diplomacy intensify efforts to economization of foreign policy, he said. This, in particular, provides for the entry into new markets and further consolidation in the existing ones. “For this, I am sure we have all the bases. Ukraine has a powerful industrial potential and modern technology in many industries, particularly aerospace, mechanical engineering and metallurgy, chemical industry, agriculture, energy,” – said the President. According to Yushchenko, Ukraine is ready to actively participate in the implementation of large-scale projects in Asia, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe and Africa. Ambassador of Sri Lanka presented his Credentials to the President Putin

HE Udayanga Weeratunga, the newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, presented his Credentials to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, in the Alxandrovsky Hall of the Great Kremlin Palace in Moscow on, 16th November 2006. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov was also present at the Ceremony.
President Putin said that recently Russia has managed to reinforce the legal foundation of relations with Sri Lanka, which will lay the groundwork for developing comprehensively Russia’s bilateral cooperation with Sri Lanka. He also noted that Russia’s traditional contacts with Sri Lanka in the fields of fishing and agriculture were expanding. After the ceremony, the Russian President had a brief conversation with everyone after a glass of champagne.
Credentials to the President was handed the new ambassadors of eight countries: Republic of Macedonia – HE Zlatko Lechevski, Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka – HE Udayanga Weeratunga, Republic of Burundi – HE Renova Ndayirukiye, Republic of Iceland – HE Benedikt Asgeirsson, Republic of Belarus – HE Vasiliy Dolgolev, Union of Myanmar – HE Min Thein, Republic of Albania – HE Todorach Lyacho, Canada – HE Ralph James Lysyshyn.
