The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russian Federation, last week, launched a new website which is expected to improve customer services, at the Embassy.
The reconstruction of a new website is a general requirement and the re-designed format makes the website more user friendly, with a catalogue of invaluable information.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga said the website would make access to information a lot easier and better helps its users to understand the information material.

Ambassador Weeratunga highlighted that the new home page provides news, Sri Lankan citizen services, and information on visas, among other relevant issues. He added that the website was designed to the convenience of the its users, with remarkable internet speed connections. Also he explained that this change was meant to promote better and positive communication between the embassy and the people they serve.
Ambassador Weeratunga pointed out that the home pages, such as the embassy news, contains all the latest headlines from Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka, press releases, information on schedules, holidays and events attended by the ambassador, among others.
Ambassadors and senior officials from Embassies, senior officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation and participants of the Leisure 2010 Tourism & Travel Fair 2010 also participated this ceremony. Embassy of Sri Lanka used this moment to welcome all Travel Company members who participated Leisure 2010 Travel Fair in Moscow.
Sri Lanka Tourist Board representatives together with other members of the Russian Tourism Industry also participated this reception.
Also Madam Weeratunga arranged a buffet dinner with Sri Lankan foods for the participants.

Travel Exhibition “Leisure 2010″ in Moscow
21-24 September, 2010
Annual Tourism and Travel fair took place from 24 till 24 September, 2010 in Moscow. Sri Lanka was represented by 12 travel companies and leading hoteliers of the country: The Foretress, Taj Hotels, Maunt Lavinia & Club Bentota, Exotic Global Holidays, Maldiviana, Tangerine Tours, Walkers Tours, Exotic vacations, Jetwing Travels, Lion Paradise, Concord Exotic Voyages, Aitken Spence. Stand inaugurating procedure leading by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Russia H.E. Udayanga Weeratunga happened in traditional Lankan stile with blessing the oil lamp that symbolized the success for any event.
It is well known that 2011 will be the Visit Sri Lanka Year in the country and we are happy to welcome all people to visit our miracle island. Moreover, there will be the World Cricket Cup 2011 in Sri Lanka. First 3 games happened in Sri Lanka in February-March and all interested in that event are welcome to join us! Don’t miss the brightest even of the year 2011.

Presentation of Sri Lanka investment opportunity for foreign investor took place on 16th September, 2010 at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia. Business groups and people who is interested in investing in Sri Lanka from different shears were invited. H.E. Udayanga Weeratunga delivered a speech to the visitors and mentioned that most of the invites have never suspected that Sri Lanka is a kind of offshore zone providing a lot of preferences to the foreign investors for setting up and developing their business.
Mr. Lal Kumara Gamage, Minister of the Embassy of Sri Lanka, who is responsible for investments at the Embassy, delivered a presentation and answer the main question: “Why invest in Sri Lanka?”
Last year Sri Lanka successfully won a war on terror and need to rebuild and progress.
Sri Lanka is at the center of the East-West maritime route and conveniently serves the markets of the Far-East, Middle East, South Asia, Africa and Australia. Colombo Airport has the most modern facilities for passengers in the sub-continent. Sri Lanka is also developing a second international airport in Hambantota in the South. Colombo Sea Port is the #1 port in South Asia.
Sri Lanka has Free Trade Agreements with India and Pakistan. Export products of the target industries into India and Pakistan, if made in Sri Lanka, by a Russian company are free of duty. This is an advantage for pricing of products competitively.
Nearly half of the population is in the working force. Sri Lankans learn skills quickly, are educated and capable of producing high-end products. The lowest rate for renting a haouse, apartments or office. Colombo has some modern office buildings including the twin towers of the World Trade Centre. Sri Lanka boasts some of the most modern and luxurious apartments.
Sri Lanka was the first country in South Asia to liberalize its economy. 100% foreign ownership is allowed. Profits can be freely repatriated and our commercial laws, based on British laws, are transparent. Sri Lankan policy avoids double taxation based on agreements with over 30 countries including Russia.
Sri Lanka has a modern banking and financial system, world class hospitals, and excellent healthcare and diagnostic facilities. Several of Sri Lankan doctors are trained in Russia. International expatriates have access to excellent schools for their children.
The country is renowned for its natural beauty and its exceptional world class tourist hotels and resorts which gave a great potential to develop a tourism industry on the Island.

World Food 2010

Food & Beverage Exhibition “World Food – 2010″

Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russian Federation together with the Sri Lanka Tea Board organized Sri Lankan participation for Worldfood 2010 in Moscow, the largest international food & beverage exhibition in Russia and Eastern Europe. This annual event is organized by ITE Group Plc. United Kingdom, and ITE LLC.
Moscow and assisted by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, State Duma of the Russian Federation and Government and Core Industrial Associations. .All leading tea importers and distributors in Russia and regions of the Russian Federation were invited by TPU and wide publicity was given by the organizers to the fair. Four leading tea exporters; Stassen Exports (Pvt) Ltd, Ceylon Tea Bags (pvt) Ltd, Ceylon Fresh Teas (Pvt) Ltd and Ceylon Tea Land (Pvt) Ltd. participated together with Sri Lanka Tea Board. The participants displayed their range of products and had attractive stands.
H E the Ambassador Mr Udayanga Weeratunge graced the occasion at the opening ceremony and Sri Lankan exporters and their representatives in Moscow were also present.
An information desk providing information on product and other relevant information on the Sri Lankan tea industry was maintained at the stall. This desk was well made use of by interested visitors to the stall. Promotional brochures in Russian and in English and promotional tea sachets were distributed to visitors during the fair. Each day of the fair, branded teas of the participating companies were utilized for the liquid tea service. Many trade inquiries were made and a number of orders are presently under negotiation. The participation by the Sri Lanka Tea Board and the private sector companies was successful.
