63th Independence Day Reception

Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga made a toast in which he praised the achievements made in the last 5 years since the election of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He also emphasized that current situation in Sri Lanka will attract the Russian investors and tourists to work with Sri Lanka frequently.

Ambassador Weeratunga said that In the Mahinda Chintana, our President mentioned that Sri Lanka will be made a centre of marine, aviation, commercial, energy and knowledge. The Government of Sri Lanka will bring the benefits of these five great economic forces closer to Sri Lankans. Step by step we are re building foreign relations with other countries. we are having more than 50 years of history of the Soviet-Russian relations. Also Ambassador Weeratunga thanked to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation for their continuously support and advices.
Ambassador Weeratunga not forgets to thanks to Sri Lanka Diaspora for their eternal contribution for the recent flood victims in Sri Lanka.
Hon. Aleksey Borodavkin, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russian Federation congratulate Sri Lanka for the Independence and informed that Russia is ready to further strengthen the bi lateral relations with Sri Lanka and always maintain a positive approach about the current developments in Sri Lanka in all areas.
Also in the morning of 4th February 2011, members of the staff of the Sri Lanka Embassy celebrated 63rd Independence. Ven. Sevanagala Ginorasa thero & Rakwane Gnanaseeha Thero, conducted the Buddhist religious observances, and Mr. M.V.P.A. Payoe, conducted the Christian prayers.
The proceedings commenced with the recital of the National Anthem. Two minutes silence was observed honoring the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country.
