Wesak Pahan Pooja to Commemorate Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi

A “Pahan Pooja” Ceremony in conjunction with the Commemoration of 2600th Sri Sambuddathva Jayanthiya was conducted under the patronage of H. E. the Ambassador with the participation of two Sri Lankan and three foreign Buddhist clergy on the 17th of May 2011. The Embassy staff colorfully decorated the Embassy premises with Wesak lanterns, Buddhist flags and was also illuminated with decorative lights. A large portion of the Sri Lankan Diaspora in Moscow and Sri Lankan Students studying in Universities in Russia attended the ceremony.
The annual Wesak tea Dansala organized by the Embassy was also conducted for which all participants including H.E the Ambassador Mr. Udayanga Weeratunga and Mrs. Weeratunga took part very enthusiastically was a great success due to the cold climate prevailed that evening.
A Pahan Poojawa was conducted by Mr. Gayan Jayawardana and Mrs. Lakmali Jayawardana from the Medical University in Smolensk in a very pious manner enchanting all participants before the chanting of Seth Pirith by the clergy. Chief Prelate of Sewanagala Jinorasa, Rakwane Gnanaseeha and three other monks conducted the chanting. A “Gilanpasa Poojawa” for the Buddhist monks and a vegetarian dinner for all participants organized by H.E. the Ambassador was also presented. The Embassy staff, students from Peoples Friendship University of Russia, Tver State Medical Academy and members of the Sri Lankan Diaspora in Moscow along with some Russians with Buddhist faith participated the ceremony.
