Reception on the occasion of “Prodexpo 2009″

Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga organized a special reception for the Sri Lankan participants of the PRODEXPO 2009 exhibition which was held in Feb 2009 in Moscow. 14 Sri Lankan companies especially tea companies participated this exhibition. Also Foreign Ministry officials, Sri Lankans living in Russian Federation participated this reception.
On this occasion Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga addressing he mentioned that to popular Ceylon Tea brand in Moscow Embassy is always ready assist any necessary help for the importing companies.
Madam Weeratunga organized special dinner with delicious Sri Lankan foods.

Workshop for travel agents with ”Russian Express” travel company

On the 09th of February 2009 the Embassy of Sri Lanka took place in the workshop for travel agents. The event was organized in cooperation with tour operator RUSSIAN EXPRESS dealing with Sri Lanka and covered about 64 agents. H.E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Russian Federation Udayanga Weeratunga was the guest of honor on the event. The program of the meeting was completely devoted to Sri Lanka as the best destination within Asia.
During 1.5 hours H.E. the Ambassador was telling about the country, some aspects of traveling, customs and visa formalities, and souvenirs as well as the main historical heritage and ancient towns, culture and nature together with the main itinerary for tourists. During all time of the meeting participants had an opportunity to see the new images of Sri Lanka on the big screen.
The Ambassador announced the issue of the first audio guide CD on Russian language. It will be distributed among Russian and Sri Lankan travel companies for using in car and buses during the tour around the country. Embassy of Russian federation is continuing their work on the audio guide and is planning to issue the CD included the audio excursions about all main places of interest for Russian tourist such as Colombo, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Dambulla, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, and Pinnawala together with nice story about tea, gems, ayurveda, spices, and dance.
All participants got presents from the Embassy such as video and brochures about Sri Lanka and the best Sri Lankan tea.

Reception on ocassion of Independepce Day Celebration

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russian Federation celebrated 61st Independence Anniversary with the Sri Lankan and diplomatic community on the evening of February 05, 2009 in Moscow. More than 200 guests including Hon. Deputy Minister of the Foreign Affairs in Russian Federation Mr. Alexei Borodavkin, senior Russian government officials, diplomatic corps, media, and friends and supporters of Sri Lanka attended the glamorous Independence Day reception at the Embassy in Moscow.
Hon. Deputy Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to the Sri Lankan Government about the firm standing against the terrorism and he congratulates recent successful victories against the terrorists. And he again re assured that Russian Federation is a true Sri Lankan friend and always working together for the development of bi lateral relations. He expressed the confidence that the humanitarian process undertaken by the Sri Lankan forces would give the wonderful opportunity to re establish and improve the living standards of affected people by providing them with clean water, better health care , education as well as micro-finances for their businesses in the Northern Province.
Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga said “Today, when we look back, we can say with satisfaction that we are undoubtedly moving forward in the right direction under the guidance of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa. or the recent three years being the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation my colleagues and I have succeeded in many things. Despite the world economic crisis, in 2008 Sri Lanka became the tea exports leader into the Russian Federation. Also we have succeeded in tourism promotion. As a result the Russian Federation took the 5th place in tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka.”
Main celebrations of the 61st anniversary of Sri Lanka’s independence were held on 04th February 2009 at the embassy premises. Members of the Sri Lankan business people, students and embassy staff and others gathered to participate in the celebrations. More than 100 Sri Lankan participated this function. After the Buddhist, Hindu and catholic religious ceremonies Ambassador and Head of Chancery read the President’s, Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers Independence messages respectively. On a huge TV screen, pictures of creative work carried out during the years of independence and how Sri Lanka celebrates 61st Independence Anniversary in Colombo-Sri Lanka were demonstrated.

Independence Day Celebration at the Embassy -2009

61st Sri Lankan Independence celebrated on grand manner with the participation of Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga on 4th of February 2009 at the Sri Lanka embassy in Russian Federation. Sri Lankan students and religious patrons participated this ceremony. Sri Lankan National Flag hoisted Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga .
Especially Sri Lankan students from suburbs cities like Tver, Kaluga and Kursk also participated this function. Embassy staff organized a special reception with Sri Lankan traditional sweets and milk rice.

ශීත ඍතු නිවාඩු කාලය එක්සත් අරාබි එමීර් රාජ්‍යයෙදී 2008

This winter vacation, we spent a beautiful time in our motherland Sri Lanka. I decided to show my family a few olden cities, about more than 2500 years Great History. On the first day, we all went to Wilpatthu Safari, but we were unlucky we couldn’t see much wild life. Then we continued our trip to Anuradhapura, and stayed in a luxury boutique hotel called Ulagalla Walavva. On the next day we went to Mihinthale & Anuradhapura. Our next destination was in Dambulla, and we stayed in my favorite hotel called Heritance Kandalama. My family spent a good time in Kandalama special, my son Diyon loved Eco Park. I want to special thank to the hotel staff, not only for the tasty food but also for the Hot Air Balloon Ride in the early morning, that was the first time i and my wife rode a hot air balloon. Of course we were impressed how our country is beautiful, I got a lot of amazing photos.
After that, we relaxed in a white sand beach Pasikudha and stayed in Malu Malu Beach Resort, My daughter Sithara’s favorite beach.

New Year Celebration at the Embassy staff

On 19th of December 2008 Sri Lankans living in Moscow participated special ceremony to contribute funds to the Api Wenuwen Api Fund in Sri Lanka. Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga contributed 7500 US $ and on the same day another two Sri Lankans contributed another 15000 US$. And the other reason is this reception was organized on the eve of Sri Lankan New Year.
Speaking on this reception Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga appreciated all efforts of Sri Lankan for the contribution for the Api Wenuwen Api Fund.
