Kazakhstan Children welcomed the President and the First Lady
19th November 2012

Marking the beginning of a golden era in 20 year old diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sri Lankan President H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa commenced a State visit to this landlocked Central Asian country on 19th November 2012. Being the first to be visited by a Sri Lankan Head of State to the Republic of Kazakhstan further enhanced the significance of the event. Once part of the Soviet Union, the Republic of Kazakhstan is emerging as a nation with enormous economic potential backed by a government considered as one of the most politically stable in the Central Asian region. The President’s visit happened in an era where more and more powerful nations are eyeing the economic opportunities, this landlocked Central Asian country is beginning to unveil.
H.E. the President was warmly welcomed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Kazakhstan Honorable Erbolat Dosayev & Mayor of Astana upon arrival by a special aircraft at the Astana National Airport at 13.30 on 19th November 2012. Kazakhstan girls in their traditional dresses greet the Sri Lankan Leader by custom of the country & 3 Kazakh girls present flowers to the Madam Rajapaksa. The International Airport at Astana had been beautifully decorated with Sri Lankan and Kazakhstan flags.
Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Minister Hon. Prof. G.L. Peiris, President’s Secretary Mr. Lalith Weeratunga, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation H.E. Udayanga Weerathunga who is concurrently accredited to the Republic of Kazakhstan were also present. After the initial welcoming ceremony the President was escorted to the official VIP hall and tea was served for the Sri Lankan delegation. The Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Kazakhstan accompanied President Rajapaksa to the RIXOS President Hotel in Astana the capital city of Kazakhstan, where the Sri Lankan leader was accommodated.

Sri Lankan Culture and Traditions shared with People in Astana
18-22 November 2012

Grand Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Show organized by the Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation commenced its activities with a glittering show at the Khan Shatyr Mall in the Astana city which is the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the 18-22 November 2012. Meticulously planned and minutely executed under the close supervision of His Excellency Udayanga Weeratunga, the Ambassador to Russian Federation with accreditation to the Republic of Kazakhstan, the show at the mall aptly named, Shopping Mall Activation showcasing the ‘Culture and Traditions’ of Sri Lanka was a tremendous success and gave the right impetus to other activities to follow. According to many who visit Astana, Khan Shatyr Mall is considered one of the best malls in the city. This Mega shopping Mall got pretty much everything from clothes to alcohol to souvenirs. Due to this Mall attracts large number of locals and foreigners and is ideal for tourism promotional activities.

Ambassador Weeratunga hosts Mr. Konstantin Dolgov for a Working dinner

Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation H.E. Udayanga Weeratunga and Madam Uma Weeratunga hosted Russian Foreign Ministry Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of Law Ambassador-at-large Mr. Konstantin Dolgov and Madam Natalia Dolgova to a working dinner on 03rd October. The dinner took place at the Official Residence of Ambassador Weeratunga.
The event was arranged to discuss the results of the visit of Mr. Dolgov to Sri Lanka during 19-21 September 2012 at the invitation of Minister of External Affairs of Sri Lanka. During the dinner Ambassador Dolgov briefed Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga of his discussions with the senior government officials of Sri Lanka on the work already done by the Government of Sri Lanka with regard to reconciliation and development in the country after the end of the Humanitarian Operation by the Sri Lanka Armed Forces in 2009. The efforts of the government for the successful return of Internally Displaced Persons to their original places and the rehabilitation of former LTTE combatants were highly commended by Mr. Dolgov.
Ambassador Dolgov also shared the experiences of his brief visit to Sri Lanka. Noting that he has travelled to many countries, Mr. Dolgov compared the positive developments in Sri Lanka. Colombo in particular was appreciated for its cleanliness and well maintenance. He also noted the Sri Lankan hospitality which he enjoyed during his short visit.

The discussion also touched on the trade relations between Sri Lanka and Russia. Speaking of the investment opportunities in Russia Mr. Dolgov stressed the need to encourage Sri Lankan entrepreneurs and businessmen to invest in the country. He said steps should be taken to relax the procedures to encourage Sri Lankans to visit Russia and to make use of the opportunities aimed at promoting trade between the two countries.

Mr. Ruslan Bayramov, the Founding President and Manager of “Etnomir also joined the dinner. During the conversation it was noted that the project “Etnomir” has been designed as an open air museum to promote the ethnic and cultural diversity of the countries around the world. Mr. Bayramov invited Sri Lankan businessmen to make use of the “Sri Lankan cultural house” (the design was based on “Sigiriya” the world famous Lion’s rock in Sri Lanka) which is nearly constructed in the Etnomir complex, to promote their products in Russia and to develop business partnership with Russian businesses.

“Leisure 2012″ ප්‍රදර්ශනය

Travel & Tourism Exhibition “Leisure 2012″ in Moscow
19th – 22th Spetember 2012
18th International Trade Fair for Travel & Tourism “Leisure 2012” was held on September 19-22, 2012 at the IEC ”Crocus Expo” in Moscow, Russia. Sri Lanka Embassy in Moscow organized the Sri Lanka stand with the assistance of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
14 companies namely; Exotic Global Holidays, Club Bentota /Mount Lavinia Hotel, Maldiviana Holidays, Connaissance de Ceylon, Aitken Spence Travels, Tangerine Tours, Concord Exotic Voyages, Jetwing Travels & Hotels, Walkers Tours, Nkar Travel & Tours, Citrus Leisure, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, Serendib Leasure and Serene Pavilions were presented at the Sri Lanka stand. The representatives of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and the Embassy of Sri Lanka also took part at the exhibition.
Special area was given to the national carrier SriLankan Airlines within the Sri Lanka stand which celebrated one year of regular operations in the Moscow –Colombo route. Mr. Nishantha Wickramasinghe, the Chairman of SriLankan Airlines graced the occasion by arriving to Moscow. He also visited the Sri Lanka stand and held several meetings with tour operators and hoteliers in the Leisure exhibition.

For one year the SriLankan Airlines has operated 104 flights and has carried approximately 11,000 passengers. The route Colombo-Moscow-Colombo is of much success with over 80% seat occupancy. Hence the airline considers the possibility of increasing the weekly number of flights from 2 to 4 in the nearest future. Meanwhile, additional flights will be on operation during New Year holidays.

His Excellency the Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga, and Mr. Nishantha Wickramasinghe, the Chairman of SriLankan Airlines, opened the Sri Lanka stand with lighting the traditional oil lamp with other participants. Delivering the speeches at the opening ceremony, they highlighted the increment of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka. During the first 8 months of this year the total tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka raised by15.8%. Almost 623,000 people visited the country. Among them, around 15,000 tourists were from Russia, which is 50.2% growth compared with last year.

His Excellency the Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga also shared his future plans on tourism promotion with the representatives of the tourist companies and the hotels of Sri Lanka; particularly, about the video guide for the Russian tourists and the English version of the Catalogue on Sri Lanka Tourism. Both projects are at the final stages and will be published before long. An Audio guide and the Catalogue on Sri Lanka Tourism in the Russian Language are already in circulation.

His Excellency the Ambassador wished all the participants good luck and expressed that he expects the Tour and travel operators along with the hoteliers will do their best to continue attracting tourists to the country to achieve the target of 2.5 million tourists by 2016.

Reception on occasion of “World Food Moscow 2012 ” and “Leisure 2012″

A grand reception was hosted by Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga on 18 September 2012 to welcome Mr. Nishantha Wickramasinghe, Chairman of Sri Lankan Airlines, and to mark Sri Lanka’s participation in the Leisure Travel & Tourism Fair 2012 and the World Food Moscow 2012 trade exhibition held concurrently. The gala was held at the residence of the Ambassador. Eighty five distinguished guests both from the tourism and tea industries of Russia and Sri Lanka attended the event, also graced by the members of the diplomatic community.

In his address, the Ambassador highlighted the rise in tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka by 54% during the first part of the year, in comparison to the same period in 2011, however stressed the need for continued promotional activities to reach the declared target of 30,000 tourist arrivals in 2012.
Although several factors in the tea industry contribute to production and market prices, he went on to explain that major tea brands in Russia such as Akbar, Lipton, Orimi Trade, Ahmad Tea and May Company were the major players with nearly 85% of total market share and that Ceylon Tea promotion in Russia and the CIS countries were paramount to maintain market positions amidst competition from other producing nations. Following the sumptuous buffet dinner, the Ambassador invited his guests to partake of freshly brewed Ceylon Tea.

World Food 2012 ප්‍රදර්ශනය

Food & Beverage Exhibition “World Food – 2012″

The Sri Lanka Embassy organized the Sri Lanka national pavilion at one of this year’s premier food and drinks exhibitions, the “World Food Moscow 2012”. This popular event took place at the Expocentr Fairgrounds in Moscow, from 17 to 20 September 2012. This exhibition is annually organized by ITE PLC of London. Established in 1992, the World Food Moscow exhibition has grown to become a major point of contact for the food and drinks industry, as well as being a vibrant source of products geared for the Russian market. Exhibitors participate under nine sections.
Interested clients are able to easily find products, compare and discuss with their manufacturers. World Food Moscow generally attracts around 60,000 visitors, including wholesalers, distributors, retailers and restaurateurs.
The Sri Lanka national pavilion joined together five Sri Lankan tea export companies namely – Ceylon Fresh Teas (Pvt) Ltd, Millennium Teas (Pvt) Ltd, Ceylon Tea Land (Pvt) Ltd, Kaushalya Tea Export Company and new company Camelia Scinensis (Pvt) Ltd. The opening ceremony of the pavilion was graced by His Excellency E Udayanga Weeratunga, Ambassador to the Russian Federation. The Tea Promotion Unit held a public tea service of Ceylon Tea brands promoted by the exporters along with an information counter. Sri Lankan exporters received many business inquiries, especially from CIS countries.

The World Food Moscow 2012 also saw the participation of reputed Sri Lankan tea exporters such as Imperial Teas (Pvt) Ltd, Heladiv Teas (Pvt) Ltd, Euro Asia Corporation (Pvt) Ltd and Empire Teas (Pvt) Ltd depicting their own well -decorated stands. Heladiv Teas promoted their brand “Heladiv” in new, improved packaging, while Euro Asia Corporation depicted their F&S and new Favour brands. Tea Tang was present through their distributor Elites Sorts Co. The exhibition was an overall success for the participants due to the many business inquiries received.

The “Sri Lanka Tourism Awards 2011” ceremony was held on the 30th of August, 2012 at the Waters Edge in Colombo. The Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation won the award for the “Outstanding Contribution for Destination Promotion by Sri Lankan Mission Overseas”. H.E. the Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga received the award from Mr. Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka Tourism Awards 2011 pays tribute to organizations and individuals for their excellence and inspired achievements whilst contributing towards the strengthening and enhancing of Sri Lankan Tourism Industry. This annual event, held for the 5th consecutive year under the aegis of Sri Lanka Tourism provides an enviable platform for industry recognition. These accolades also present an opportunity for tourism operators to reinforce their commitment in perpetuating visitor experience and celebrate their success in an evolving business environment. An objective of this year’s Awards is to recognize and reward excellence in the travel and tourism industry, thus promoting and enhancing the delivery of service standards.
A panel of industry experts chose the Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation as the best Mission in tourism promotion overseas. During the year 2011 the Embassy took part in various international tourist exhibitions in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, organized several press tours for the journalists and TV groups, held a series of workshops for the largest tour operators of Russia, issued the Sri Lanka Audio Guide CDs in Russian Language as well as the Embassy’s weekly News E-Magazine “Ayubowan! Sri Lanka”. As a result of the Embassy’s promotional activity dozens of articles about Sri Lanka were published in international magazines and placed on news websites, over 50 TV programs and films were broadcasted on the TV channels of Russia and Ukraine.

ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයන් වන අප, අභිමානවත් ජාතියකැයි ලොවටම හඬනඟා කියන්නෙමු. ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨ වූද, සාඩම්බර වූද අතීතයක් අපට හිමිය. මහ දාගැබ් බන්ඳවා, සහලින් රට ස්වයංපෝෂිත කර, සිහල දේශය සුරපුරක් කරන්නට අතීත රජ දවස වෙහෙස වූවෝ බොහෝය. ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සතුව පැවැති ස්වභාවික සම්පත් හා වාණිජ මධ්‍යස්ථානයක් ලෙස භාවිතා කිරීමේ හැකියාව නිසාවෙන් දෝ සියවස් ගණනකට පෙරාතුව විවිධ ආක්‍රමණයන්ට මුහුණ දෙන්නට සිදුවිය. එහෙත්, ඒ සෑම ආක්‍රමණයක දීම තම ජීවිත පරදුවට තබා, එකාවන්ව එක්වී සියල්ලෝ දේශය වෙනුවෙන් සටන් කළහ. එක ධජයක් සෙවණට ලක් දෙරණ ගෙන එන්නට ඇප කැප වී ක්‍රියා කළහ. එහි ප්‍රතිඵලය වූයේ, ලක් ඉතිහාසය තුළ අමරණීය චරිත බිහිවීමය.

කාලයාගේ ඇවෑමෙන්, අපේ හිමිකම යළිදු හිරු නොබසින අධිරාජ්‍යයේ කිරීටයෙන් මිදී ලබා ගන්නට අපේ හෙළ විරුවන්ට හැකිවිණි. ඉන් ඉක්බිති කලක් රට සාමකාමී විය. එහෙත්, යළිත් සිත් තුළට ජීවිත පිළිබඳව අනියත බියක් දශක තුනකට පෙරාතුව දැනෙන්නට විය. ඒ ඊළාම් රාජ්‍යයක් උදෙසා, කුඩා බිම්කඩක්, දෙකඩ කරන්නට සතුරකු නිර්මාණයවීම නිසාවෙනි.
ලොවම භීතියට පත් කළ ත්‍රස්තවාදී සංවිධාන අතරින්, ඊළාම් රාජ්‍යයක් වෙනුවෙන් සටන් වැදුණු එල්.ටී.ටී.ඊ. ත්‍රස්ත කණ්ඩායම සංවිධානාත්මක විය. දරුණු විය. බිළිඳුන්ගේ කිරි සුවඳ, ආගම දහම, තෝරා ගන්නට සංවේදීතාවයක් නොතිබූ නිසාදෝ ජීවිත ගණනාවක් අපට අහිමි කළේය.
පරාජය කළ නොහැකි යැයි උදම් ඇනූ සතුරකු පරාජය කරන්නට එවරද, දේශාභිමානයෙන් ඔද වැඩුණු සිහල පුත්තු එකතු වූහ. ඒ වූකලී රණවිරුවන්ය. දේශයේ මුර දේවතාවුන්ය. තම දරුවන් මව්බිම වෙනුවෙන් “රණවිරුවකු” කිරීමට මවුපියන්ට ගෞරවනීය හැඟීමක් විය. පුතු හමුදා සේවයට එක්වූ පසු දහසක් මවුවරුන් පියවරුන්ගේ නෙත් අග දැල්වුණේ එකම ප්‍රාර්ථනාවකි. ඒ අන්කිසිවක් නොව යුද්ධයේ නිමාවක් දැක, තම ආදරණීය පුතු යළිඳු මවු තුරුලට එන මොහොත දකින්නටය.

නිවසින් පිටව ගිය පුතු, ස්වාමියා, බිරිඳ, යළි නිවසට එනතුරු ඒ වකවානුව තුළ සිත් තුළ පැවතියේ ජීවිතය පිළිබඳ බියකි. එහෙත්, ඒ බිය තුරන් කරන්නට දේශයේ මුර දේවතාවුන්ට හැකිවන්නේ අභිමානවත් නායකත්වයක මඟ පෙන්වීම තුළය. රණවිරුවන් තුළ වූ නොසැලෙන ධෛර්යයේත්, එඩිතරබවේත්, උත්තරීතර ප්‍රතිඵලය ලෙසිනි.
මානුෂීය මෙහෙවරක අවසානය සනිටුහන් වූයේ 2009 වසරේ දී සියලු සිත් සතන් තුළට නව බලාපොරොත්තුවක අරුණළු ගෙන එමිනි. නන්දිකඩාල් කලපුවෙන් එල්.ටී.ටී.ඊ. ත්‍රස්ත නායක වේළුපිල්ලේ ප්‍රභාකරන්ගේ අවසන් මොහොත සනිටුහන් වෙද්දී, රණවිරුවන්ට දේශයේ උත්තමාචාරය නිරතුරු පුද කළේ කළ මෙහෙවර අගයමිනි.
රණවිරුවෝ, තම ජීවිත රට ජාතිය වෙනුවෙන් පරදුවට තැබුවේ, නිදහස් නිවහල් ජාතියක් උදාකර දෙන්නටය. සටන් බිමේදී අත පා අහිමි වූ රණවිරුවෝ, ඒ කෙසේ වුවද අනාගතය දෙස වඩාත් සුබවාදීව බැලූහ. ඔවුන් කිසිදා තනි වුණේ නැත.

රට දැය සුරකින්නට පෙරට ආ රණවිරුවන් වෙනුවෙන්, ඔවුනගේ උත්තරීතර කාර්යය අගයනු වස් රජය බොහෝ දෑ ඉටු කළහ. ස්වාමියා රණබිමේ දී අහිමි වූ බිරින්ඳෑවරුන්ට සරණක් වෙමින්, සියලු සුබසාධක කටයුතුහි වගකීම වගකිව යුත්තෝම ඉටු කළහ. “අභිමංසල ද” එවැන්නකි.
දේශය, ජාතිය රැක ගන්නට දිවි හිමියෙන් සටන් කර පූර්ණ වශයෙන් ආබාධිත තත්ත්වයට පත් වූ රණවිරුවන් ජීවිත කාලය පුරාම රැකබලා ගන්නට අනුරාධපුරයේ අක්කර 10 ක දර්ශනීය භූමි භාගයක, ඉදිකළ “අභිමංසල” රණවිරු අයිතියට පත්වූයේ පසුගිය ජූලි මස 26 වනදා, ශ්‍රී ලංකා ප්‍රජාතාන්ත්‍රික සමාජවාදී ජනරජයේ ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මැතිතුමාගේ සුරතිනි. ඒ, යුධ හමුදාපති ලුතිනනල් ජෙනරාල් ජගත් ජයසූරිය මහතාගේ සංකල්පයකට අනුවය.
පූර්ණ ආබාධිත රණවිරුවන් 52 දෙනෙකුට මෙහි නේවාසික පහසුකම් සලසන අතර, ඔවුන්ගේ දුක සැප බලන්නට නිවෙස වෙත පැමිණෙන මවුපියන්ට, ඥාති හිතමිතුරන්ට නිවාස කිහිපයක් ද මේ භූමි භාගය තුළ ඉදිවී තිබේ.

1948 වසරේදී හිරු නොබසින අධිරාජ්‍යයේ කිරීටයෙන් නිදහස් වූ අපි එතැන් පටන් සංවර්ධනාත්මක සමාජ, ආර්ථික, සංස්කෘතික දිශානතියක් කරා ගමන් කළෙමු. ලන්දේසි, පෘතුග්‍රීසි, ඉංග්‍රීසි ආක්‍රමණයන්ගෙන් නිදහස් වූ පසු සැවොම සිතුවේ යළිඳු අරගලයක සේයාවක් වත් ලක් මවට උරුම නොවේවා යනුවෙනි. එහෙත් එකම රටක් තුළ එක ධජයක් සෙවණේහිඳී අප අතර තවත් නොසිතු අරගලයක් ඇති විණි. ඒ ඊළාම් රාජ්‍යයක් උදෙසා සටන් වදින ත්‍රස්ත කණ්ඩායමක් හා ලාංකික උරුමය වෙනුවෙනි.
මීට දශක තුනක ඇවෑමෙන් මූල බීජ උපදවමින් ජීවිත පිළිබඳ අනියත බවක් සිත් සතන් වෙලා ගති. ඉතිහාසයේ කළු පැල්ලම ලෙසින් හැඳින් වූ ‘කළු ජූලිය’ ටත් වඩා ගෙවී ගිය දශක තුනක ත්‍රස්තවාදී අරගල පැවැති වකවානුව කළුම කළු විය. උදෑසන නිවසින් පිටව ගිය පුතු, ස්වාමියා, නැවත නිවසට එන තුරු මවුවරුන්ගේත් බිරින්දෑවරුන්ගේත් සිතෙහි ඇති වූයේ අනියත බවකි. අවිනිශ්චිත තත්ත්වයකි.
ඊළාම් රාජ්‍යයක් උදෙසා සටන් වැදුණු එල්. ටී. ටී. ඊ. ත්‍රස්තවාදීන් ඉවක් බවක් නොමැතිව සිය ගණන් ජීවිත බිලි ගනිද්දී අභිමානවත් වූ දේශය රැක ගන්නට ජාතිකානුරාගයෙන් ඔද වැඩී ගිය තරුණයන් එක් වූයේ ජීවිත පරදුවට තබමිනි. ඔවුන් දේශයේ මුර දේවතාවන් යැයි හැඳින්වීම අතිශයින්ම සාධාරණය. රණ බිමේ විරුවෝ ඔවුහුය.

වේළුපිල්ලේ ප්‍රභාකරන් නම් ත්‍රස්තවාදි නායකයා තම අරමුණ වෙනුවෙන් සිය කණ්ඩායම් මෙහෙයවද්දී තල් අරණට ශක්තිමත් පවුරක් ගොඩ නගන්නට අපේ රණවිරුවන්ට හැකි විණි. ජය සිකුරු, වඩමාරච්චි සටන යනාදී නාමයන් ආරෝපිතව ඇරැඹි විවිධ මෙහෙයුම් තුළින් අවසානයේදී මානුෂීය මෙහෙයුමක් දක්වා සියල්ල දිගු විය.
රණවිරුවන් වන්නට සිහින මැවුවන්ට මාපිය ආශිර්වාදය නොමඳවම ලැබිණි. ඒ වීර පුතකු ජාතියට දායාද කිරීමේ උරුමය ඇති ආඩම්බරකාර මවක පියකු වන්නටය. ගිනි අවිය අත දැරුවකු රණවිරුවන්ගේ සිත් මානුෂීය විය. එල්. ටී. ටී. ඊ. සංවිධානය ළමා සොල්දාදුවන් පවා ඉදිරියට එවමින් නායකත්වය රැක ගන්නට මාන බලද්දී අපේ රණවිරුවෝ නොබියවම ඉදිරියට ගියහ.
වරින් වර ත්‍රස්තවාදීන් දුර්වල වෙද්දී සාම සාකච්ඡා මේසයට ඔවුහු ගියද යළි සටනට අවතීර්ණ වූයේ ඔවුහුමය. එහෙත් රණවිරුවන් කිසිදා පසු බැස්සේ නැත. වර්තමාන ජනපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතාගේ අභිමානවත් නායකත්වය තුළ ශක්තිමත් සිතැති රණවිරුවෝ එකාවන්ව එක්වී ඊළාම් සංකල්පය පරාජය කළහ. ඒ දශක තුනක් ජීවිත බිය ගැන් වූ යුද්ධය 2009 වසරේදී නිමාවට පත් කරමිනි.
ඒ වූ ගමන් මෙඟ්දී තරුණ ජීවිත රැසක් අපට අහිමි විය. දේශය බේරා ගන්නට රණවිරුවෝ තම රුධිරය මිහිතලය හා එක් කළහ. ඒ සැබෑ විරුවකු ලෙසිනි. මවුවරුන්ට පුතුන් අහිමි විය.

එහෙත් විරෝධාර පුතකු රටට ජාතියට දායාද කළ හැකි කම නිසාවෙන් ඔවුහු සතුටු වූහ. තවත් සමහර රණවිරුවන්ට තම ශක්තිවන්ත දෑත් දෙක අහිමි විය. රෝද පුටුවට සීමා විය. එනමුත් යුද බිමේදී පෑ සුරුවිරුකම් දෙස බලා සතුටු වුන්නට ඔවුනට හැකි විණ. දේශයේ මුර දේවතාවෝ ලක් දෙරණ යළිඳු එක් සේසත් කළහ. රණවිරුවකු යන සංකල්පය සියලු වෘත්තින් අභිබවා උසස් තලයට එන්නේ එය වෘත්තීයමය හැඟිමක් ලෙසින් නොව දේශානුරාගී හැඟීමක් ලෙසිනි.
දැන් දශක තුනක් සියල්ල බිය ගැන්වූ ත්‍රස්තවාදය අවසන්ය. මේ උදාවී ඇත්තේ සංවර්ධනාත්මක යුගයක ඇරැඹුමයි. කළගුණ සලකන කාලයයි. වඩක්කු වසන්තම් (උතුරු වසන්තය) නැෙඟනහිර නවෝදය ආදිය හරහා උතුරේ ජීවිත යළි ගොඩනැෙඟද්දී දේශයේ මුර දේවතාවන්ට කළගුණ සලකන්නට නායකත්වයට අවැසි විය. රණවිරුවන්ගේ සුබ සාධන කටයුතු වෙනුවෙන් බොහෝ දෑ සිදු වන්නේ එහි ප්‍රතිඵලයක් ලෙසිනි.
ආබාධිත වූ රණවිරුවන්ට ජීවිතයෙන් කිසිදා පලා නොයන්නට අවැසි ශක්තිය නිර්මාණය වී තිබේ. යුද්ධයේදී රට ජාතිය වෙනුවෙන් දිවි පූජා කළ රණවිරුවන් උදෙසා රණවිරු ස්මාරක තැනෙද්දී රණවිරු සති ක්‍රියාත්මක වෙද්දි වර්තමාන සමාජයෙහි රණවිරුවාට උත්තරීතර ස්ථානයක් නිර්මාණය වී තිබේ. සෑම හදක් තුළම රණවිරුවා යන සංකල්පය වැජඹෙන්නේ එතරම්ම දේශානුරාගී හදට සමීප වූ අන්‍යයන් නොමැති හෙයිනි. ඔවුහු ලක් දෙරණේ වීර පුතුන්ය.
දශක තුනක් පෑරි පෑරී යළිදු වේදනා දුන් යුද්ධය නිමා වූයේ දකුණින් බිහි වූ නායකත්වයක ආශිර්වාදයෙනි. ඒ නිසාවෙන් ඔහු සුලබ දේශපාලනඥයෙකු නොව දුලබ රාෂ්ට්‍ර පාලකයෙකි. ඒ මක් නිසාද යත් යුද්ධය නිමා කළා පමණක් නොව උතුරේ ජන ජීවිතයද දකුණේ ජන ජීවිතයද නංවාලන්නට ප්‍රායෝගිකව පියවර ගනිමින් සිටින දූරදර්ශී තිරසාර ගැටලුවලට විසඳුම් ලබා දෙන්නෙක් නිසාවෙනි. එහෙයින් රට දැය සුරකින්නට අවිය අතට ගෙන යුද වැදී අභිමානවත් පුතුන්ගේ අනාගතය පිළිබඳව ඇත්තේ සුබදායි සිහිනයන්ය. ඒ සිහින එකිනෙක මල් පල ගැන්වෙනු දක්නට ලැබීම සැබවින්ම ආඩම්බරයකි.

“ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨ කීර්තිය යනු කිසිදා නොවැටී සිටීම නොව වැටෙන සෑම අවස්ථාවකම නැවත නැගිටීම” යැයි සාමය පිළිබඳ නොබෙල් ත්‍යාගයෙන් පිදුම් ලැබු නෙල්සන් මැන්ඩෙලා වරක් ප්‍රකාශ කළේය. මේ අපූර්ව අයෝමය ශක්තිය ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයන් වන අපටද හිමිය. ඒ බැව් නූතනයේදී සාධාරණීකරණය කළේද අන් කවරකුවත් නොව රණවිරුවන්මය. එවන් වූ ශක්තියක් අභිමානයක් දායාද කර ලෝක සිතියමේ යළිඳු වතාවක් දේශානුරාගී දේශාභිමානි ජාතියක තතු සනිටුහන් කරන්නට දායක වූ දේශයේ රණවිරුවාණන් වෙනුවෙන් පුද දෙනු ලැබූවකි, “අභිමංසල”
අනුරාධපුර නුවර වැව ආසන්නයේ “අභිමංසල” ඉදිකරන්නට අත්කරගත් භූමි භාගය රු. මිලියන 200 කි. යුධ හමුදා ඉංජිනේරු බලකාය මගින් වසරක දී මෙහි ඉදිකිරීම් කටයුතු නිම කළ අතර, මධ්‍යස්ථාන ඉදිකිරීම් වෙනුවෙන් රුපියල් මිලියන 230ක් වැය වුණි.
“අභිමංසල” රණවිරු පරිශ්‍රය තුළ, එක්තැන් වූ ආබාධිත රණවිරුවන් සඳහා සයනාගාර 8 ක්ද, මොළයට හානි වූ රණවිරුවන් වෙනුවෙන් නිවාස 5 ක්ද, භෞත චිකිත්සක වෛද්‍ය පර්යේෂණාගාර, පුස්තකාල, ක්‍රීඩා මධ්‍යස්ථාන, පිහිනුම් තටාක ආදියෙන් සමන්විතය. එවන් වූ පහසුකම්වලින් සපිරි “අභිමංසල” තුළ “විලා” නිවාස ඉදිවී තිබේ. එක් “විලා” නම් කළ නිවාසයක් වෙනුවෙන්, රුපියල් මිලියන 5ක් පමණ වැය කර තිබේ. කොටේජ් සඳහා රුපියල් මිලියන 3.5 ක් වැය වී ඇත.
මෙවන් පහසුකම්වලින් සපිරි ඊළඟ රණවිරු නිවාස වයඹ පළාතේ ඉදිකිරීමට මේ වනවිට රත්නපුර මැණික් ව්‍යාපාරිකයන්ගේ සංගමය අනුග්‍රහ දක්වන්නට සැදී පැහැදී සිටියි.
අද රණවිරුවන්ට සමාජය තුළ උත්තරීතර තත්ත්වයක් උදාකර දී ඇත්තේ එදා ඔවුන් දිවි පරදුවෙන් කළ සේවාව අනුපමේය නිසාවෙනි. දේශය, ජාතිය වෙනුවෙන් තම ජීවිතය ද පරදුවට තබා සටන් බිමට වැද, මානුෂීය මෙහෙවරක නියැලී, දේශයට සාමය උදාකර දුන් රණවිරුවෝ සැබවින්ම දේශයක් නංවාලූ, දේශයේ මුරදේවතාවන් වන්නේ එහෙයිනි.

A farewell reception was organized in honour of Group Captain MDAP Payoe, who successfully concluded his tenure as the Defence Advisor of the Mission. Group Captain Payoe commenced his tenure in the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia in 5th December 2010. His Excellency Udayanga Weeratunga the Ambassador appreciated the functions Group Captain Payoe carried out and wish him for an excellent future.

The Annual Cricket Tournament Embassy Cricket Cup 2012
30th June 2012

The Annual Sri Lanka Embassy Cricket Cup 2012 took place on 30th June 2012 at the playground of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. Its notworthy that the event was organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation for the 5th successive year with the participation of Sri Lankan students from Russian State Universities and the Sri Lankan business community in Moscow. Sri Lanka Embassy Cup Cricket tournament organized annually by the Embassy since 2008 with the aim of bringing the Sri Lankan community together and promoting unity among the Sri Lankan student community.
Eight Sri Lankan cricket teams from different Universities of the Russian Federation participated in the tournament. 8 teams representing the Peoples Friendship University of Russia (Lumumba), Kursk State Medical University (Royal Panthers, Kursk Knights, Jayasikuru and Cobras), Tver State Medical Academy (Tver, Serendib) and Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University (MADI- Parakumba) participated the Embassy Cup 2012. The Team “Jayasikuru” representing Kursk State Medical University won the Sri Lanka Embassy Cup 2012 and received the Trophy from H.E. Udayanga Weeratunga.

Champions were awarded the Embassy Cup Trophy and a cash prize US$ 1,000.00 while a cash prize of US$ 500.00 was awarded to Lumumba team of Peoples Friendship University as they emerged Runners up. Mr. Roy Padmakumara was awarded A Srilankan Airline return ticket to Colombo for the outstanding all round performance, and US$ 300.00 each were awarded to Mr. Manjula Samarakoon of Kursk team as Best Batsman and Mr. T. Fairoof of Tver team as Best Bawler. Further an exhibition match was played between a combined Sri Lankan team and Moscow Cricket Club adding a novelty to the tournament. Sri Lanka Combined VI won by 16 runs.

All arrangements for the event were done by the staff of the Embassy. The venue was decorated with national flags and company banners of the sponsors. Tea with snacks was provided throughout the day and a traditional lunch was served to all who attended the event.

Ambassador Udayanga Weeratunga and Sri Lankan Business Community in Moscow contributed in many ways in arranging the event. The Embassy takes the opportunity to thank the following members of the Sri Lankan business Community in Moscow for their assistance in making the event a success:
